THE NEWSPAPER
|
| ADVICE 237 |
| Teaching the dog to urinate and defecate of a piece of newspaper can have an opposite effect because it is possible that the animal won't make a difference between the paper and the rest of the house. |
| ADVICE 238 |
| Teach your dog to urinate and defecate outside of the house as a general rule as soon as possible and to do it inside of the house only when the circumstances oblige it. |
| ANTICIPATION |
| ADVICE 239 |
| The fact that the dog suddenly begins smelling the floor insistently usually indicates that the dog is about to get it dirty. |
| ADVICE 240 |
| You can buy sprays in order to make the puppy use the place we have previously impregnated with that smell in practically in all pet shops. |
| REWARDING AT THE TIME |
| When taking the puppy out, distract it or call its attention, show the dog one of its toys to make sure it won't make its necessities on the way. Say "hurry up" when it begins doing it and then congratulate the animal for having a correct behavior. |
| ROUTINARY ACTIONS |
| ADVICE 241 |
| A puppy normally needs to make its necessities after waking up and after playing and specially after eating and after going out from its cage. As a general rule, remember that a three month old puppy needs to urinate every three hours. |
| EDUCATED MASTER |
| ADVICE 242 |
| Dominate your character when you are training your puppy. It is useless to growl at it if you don't catch it when it is making its necessities inside the house. |
| ADVICE 243 |
| When you catch it doing it, say "NO" energetically and take it to the appropriate place. |
| In order to avoid these situations, always keep an eye on the puppy. If you can't do it, it will be better to leave in it's cage. |
| RESPONSIBLE ATTITUDE |
| The dog's defecation is not only a problem for public health of people and other dogs, but also an aesthetic aggression for the environment. Keep it in mind. |
| ADVICE 244 |
| When you take your dog into a public place, always remember to take a shovel or simply a plastic bag. |
| CALL |
| Do this exercise when your dog is alert and hungry. Divide your dog's food in ten portions and, along the day, encourage it to come, showing it the food, calling it by its name and saying "come". Try not to call it to growl at it because the animal will relate your arrival with the unpleasant experience of being growled. |
Dog Training at home |
| Get in a quiet room of your house, stand up close enough to control it. A good place for its dimensions is the living room.
With the food very visible on your hand, call the dog by its name and give it the order: "come".
If the puppy comes, congratulate it with enthusiasm saying "good". Encourage the dog to come bending your knees and opening your arms.
|
| When the puppy approaches, get on your knees to be at its level. Congratulate it once again, caress it and give it the deserved food reward. |
| Training outdoors |
| Once the puppy is well trained to come to your call inside the house, go out to a place with more distractions. Take it tied with a long rope or a retractable leash to make sure the dog will come and repeat the exercise.
Don't use the leash to drag the puppy; encourage it to come back for its reward. If it gets distracted, get its attention back with a little pull of the leash. From far away, a toy is a more visible prize than a food reward.
|
| WHEN THE DOG GETS FATIGUED |
| Dogs; and puppies even more, have a very hard time trying to keep their attention and training represents something mentally tiring and very hard for them. |
|
|
|
|
| ADVICE 245 |
| The sessions with puppies won't be longer than 15 minutes each, since the dog should not be tired. |
| ADVICE 246 |
| You can plan these sessions for the time in which the dog is going to make an active physical exercise, in that way, you will get it to be physically and mentally prepared to take advantage of them. |
| ADVICE 247 |
| If you vary the places in which you train, you will keep the dog's attention during the whole session. |
