HEIGHT: 23 cm
WEIGHT: 3 kg
LIFE EXPECTANCY: 13 - 15 years
CHARACTERISTICS of the YORKSHIRE TERRIER
Of this excellent company dog it can be said that it inherits all the virtues and defect of the authentic terriers.
ADVICE 959
Its size is small, but it doesn't affect its character any, nor its kindness with its owners.
ADVICE 960
Keep in mind that although its present function is that of a company dog, this is also a vocational hunter; meaning it will stick its nose into various places it shouldn't.
ADVICE 961
This is a sweet dog, affectionate and intelligent. Full of life, it is brave and daring. Don't be surprised to find a Yorkshire openly daring a mastiff; in general they aren't conscious of their size and this can lead some problems; its important to keep this in mind when training it.
ADVICE 962
One of its defects is thinking it is a human being. This is a common veterinarian pathology; called the human being complex. This derangement can sometimes lead to serious family problems. Where the dog thinks it is the leader of the family or the pack.
ADVICE 963
To avoid problems it's important to train it firmly, but gently, and remember you must eradicate any intent on dominating.
ADVICE 964
Have it socialize immediately right after it receives its first shots and make sure the affection it gets doesn't lead to spoiling.
ADVICE 965
Like in other company dogs with long hair, most of its cares and centered around its hair.
ADVICE 966
Its need for space and room for exercise are enough in a normal even small house.
ADVICE 967
It's important to control the growth of its teeth during its first teething.
ADVICE 968
An authentic Yorkshire should have a dark bluish coat with golden or tan areas on the head.
ADVICE 969
Its hair is very silky and long reaching the floor.
ADVICE 970
Remember that puppies have short hair and newborns are black.
ADVICE 971
An important fact is that it's impossible to buy the miniature kind, they simply don't exist. So don't pay attention when breeders assure you they sell the best miniature Yorkshires.

It must be fairly small and flat, with a not very prominent skull, nor round, nor a very long snout; with a black snout.
EYES:
Medium sized, dark and shinny, with an intelligent and lively look, placed in such a way that they look directly forward. They mustn't protrude and the edge of he eyelids must be dark pigmented.
EARS:
Small, V shaped, carried upright and not too apart, covered with short bright tan colored hair.
MOUTH:
Perfect, scissor like bite, leveled and complete; meaning the outer upper teeth must touch the lower ones on their inner part and must be implanted perpendicularly to the maxillas. The incisors must be placed leveled on the maxillas (of the same size).
FRONT EXTREMITIES:
Well placed shoulders. Straight members, covered with tan colored hair, and bright golden, with slightly lighter hues at the tips than on the root, not growing further than the knees in the front legs.

Very compact, with a moderate arched ribs, and a good back.
